This is why your postpartum body deserves well-fitting and comfortable clothing

Postpartum body - Of an Origin clothing

Once you’ve given birth and entered the fourth trimester, the physical, emotional and mental shift is incredible. Life has changed and you may be unprepared for new motherhood and all that it entails.

As you quickly adapt to a new way of life, you may find clothing and how you dress comes so far down your priority list. So much so that you continue to wear the same milk stained t-shirt and sweatpants for days on end. Sound familiar?

The temptation can be to continue wearing your pregnancy clothes or your partner’s baggy t-shirt on repeat. And why not? It’s comfy, and perhaps the only thing that you can fit into right now. And let’s be honest, you’d much rather be dressing your newborn in new outfits and cute onesies than dressing yourself.

But here’s why dressing your postpartum body deserves some thought and attention too. It’s been through alot during pregnancy and labour. You may look down and not recognise this new postpartum body but take a moment to acknowledge all it has done to bring your little one earthside. It deserves some love and attention.

Your body is working harder than ever in the fourth trimester

Now, in this fourth trimester, your body is working just as hard as ever, as it cares for your baby. Sleepless nights and cluster feeding sessions with your newborn are no joke! Your body is carrying you through and providing for your new baby in incredible ways. And one small but significant way you can care for yourself is by choosing to dress your body in clothes that fit, are comfortable and fit your needs as a nursing mama.

Afterall, pregnancy clothes will only take you so far, and chances are alot of your pre-pregnancy clothes either don’t fit or aren’t for purpose in this new phase of motherhood. This can all feel a bit overwhelming but dressing your postpartum body shouldn’t be a chore.

Clothes can help bring a sense control as you navigate new motherhood

At Of an Origin we hear mothers again and again say how hard it is confronting their closet full of clothes that don’t fit or aren’t feeding/pumping friendly. It’s incredibly defeating. We get it. That’s why we designed Of an Origin to give new mothers a sense of confidence and control during a vulnerable time when so much feels out of our control.

We know what we wear has a profound effect on how we feel. How we choose to dress on a particular day can have a huge impact on how we approach the day and how we feel about ourselves. That’s why we shouldn’t underestimate the power of dressing our postpartum body in clothes we actually like and will see us through the fourth trimester and beyond.

A few key items can give you a confidence boost when you need it most

Whilst you certainly don’t need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, it is worth thinking about investing in a few key pieces of clothing to help you feel good about yourself and make breastfeeding that bit easier. When a mother has a few pieces that are flattering, comfortable and stylish it has an uplifting effect.

For example, a classically stylish wrap top or breastfeeding friendly tee can make feeding your baby whilst out and about much easier. These can be easily paired with tailored joggers on on-trend wide-leg pants. These are the sorts of new mama essential items that are versatile and which you can easily dressup or dress down depending on your mood or the occasion.

Discover postpartum clothes that fit and flatter

The empowering effect that comes from carefully chosen clothing items that fit and flatter your postpartum body cannot be underestimated. Life is too short to try and squeeze into your old clothes at a time when your body and life is transitioning. Similarly, wearing your pregnancy clothes will likely leave you feeling stuck in a rut.

The fourth trimester is a magical and transformative time and your body deserves well fitting and comfortable clothing so it can do everything it needs to. Find clothes that are well-tailored, made of high-quality material and breastfeeding friendly. These are the sorts of clothes you’ll not only feel good in but which will stand up to repeated washing and life with a new baby!

The fourth trimester is a magical and transformative time and your body deserves well fitting and comfortable clothing so it can do everything it needs to.

As well as choosing clothes which are practical and we-made, its also important to like what you are wearing! Never underestimate the uplifting effect of clothes that make you feel like ‘you’. Luckily there is more choice than ever when it comes to finding stylish postpartum clothes. You can find a selection of stylish pieces and outfit ideas at ofanorigin.com.
