Breastfeeding mom at the beach is secretly filmed and shamed by another mother online

A mother breastfeeding her infant son at the beach had her privacy breached when she was secretly filmed by another mother. The parent who was filming was so disgusted to see the mom breastfeeding in public that she decided to post about the incident on her Facebook page

Filming without consent

Not only did the mother upload the private video, which was taken without consent, but she accompanied it with the following comment: “I’m not shaming woman who breast feed their babies. I’m shaming the woman who breast feed in public with no respect to cover themselves up and just let their boobs hangout (nipple included) for everyone to see! COVER TF UP !!!” the caption on the post read. “I shouldn’t have to cover my son’s eyes and explain why your boobs are out, and quite frankly I don’t want to see it either. Have some respect!”

Twist of events

In a twist of events, the breastfeeding mother Izabele Lomax soon discovered the offending Facebook post. Whilst most likely feeling shocked and upset about the violation of her privacy, she didn’t wait about and wallow in self-pity. Instead she chose to highlight everything that was wrong with being secretly filmed and the comments made about her breastfeeding in public.

On her TikTok page the breastfeeding mother known as ‘Baker’s Mom’ showed the now-deleted Facebook post to her followers. Speaking to camera she said: “Imagine waking up, getting on Facebook, and seeing this video of yourself yesterday at the beach. Not only did this woman walk past me multiple times with her son, you had every opportunity in the world to say something to me. Not that I would have cared or stopped what I was doing, but you instead choose to post a video of me and my child on Facebook, publicly for the world to see.”

Calling out the sexualisation of breastfeeding

If that’s not enough of a rebuke, she added: “What if you were told that the only way that you could eat at the beach is if you were covered up by a towel?”. She also called out the sexualisation of breastfeeding when she said: “Also, let it be known that her son is literally 4 years old. If you are sexualizing a breast to a 4-year-old, you’ve got your own set of issues.”

Standing up for all breastfeeding mothers who choose to feed whilst out and about, she said: “My child was also hungry in multiple restaurants and while we were walking down the street, and guess what, he ate.”

Izabele added a word of advice about how breastfeeding mothers should be properly supported in public. She said: “Next time you see a mom breastfeeding her child in public, covered up or not, tell her how good of a job she’s doing”.
