August has been a busy month for breastfeeding awareness as we celebrated World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August) at the start of the month and Black Breastfeeding Week (25-31 August) at the end of the month.
It was fantastic to see some of our favourite celebrities flying the flag for breastfeeding over the course of the month.

1. Daisy Lowe on how long it took to establish breastfeeding
English fashion model Daisy Lowe gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Ivy, during Easter 2023. Daisy kicked off World Breastfeeding Week by giving her fans an update into how breastfeeding was going with her little one. She honestly wrote about their issues with tongue tie and reflux and how “it took 6 weeks for us to find our groove” – something so many new breastfeeding mamas will relate to.
2. Ellie Warner gets honest about mastitis
Goggle Box star and new mama, Ellie Warner, gave birth to her first child, Ezra, just a few months ago. In August she uploaded a series of photos explaining her breastfeeding journey so far – and how she had to work hard to overcome mastitis and a very painful abscess. Her followers found her honest account refreshing and inspiring. Founder of Boobbling wrote: “This will help so many mums, thank you so much for sharing” ❤️💛🧡”.
3. Rumer Willis feeding baby daughter Louetta
Womens Health Champion and daughter of Actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Rumer Willis recently celebrated her 35th birthday. She uploaded a beautiful photo of her breastfeeding her newborn daughter Louetta. She began her caption with the words: “Ridiculously Sunburnt and Feeding my Lou” and ended it by saying: “I have never felt more beautiful in my whole life”.
4. Jasmine Hemsley talks about tandem feeding
TV presenter, chef and author Jasmine Hemsley choose World Breastfeeding Week to upload a photo of herself tandem feeding her baby and toddler on a bench outdoors. In the caption Jasmine told her followers: “Tandem feeding (feeding children of 2 different ages at the same time) is normal around the world but not so common in the west and certainly not something I’d seen more than once in real life.” Her comments were filled with mamas sharing their own experience of tandem feeding, which was wonderful to read.
5. Bailey P marks six months of breastfeeding
Plus size model Bailey P celebrated six months of breastfeeding during World Breastfeeding Week. In an honest update, she revealed the realities of breastfeeding over the course of six months – the ups and downs and everything in between! Inspiringly, she ended her post by saying: “Breastfeeding has continued to teach me that confidence isn’t just about body image. It’s about doing what’s best for you in any moment. Any season. We did it nugget. We made it 6 whole months.”
6. Rihanna breastfeeding her toddler son
Rihanna made headlines around the world when a photo of her breastfeeding her toddler was shown on her Savage X Fenty page. It may have been an image promoting Rhianna’ new range of maternity wear but the focus was on Rihanna breastfeeding her toddler whilst pregnant. She won praise breastfeeding whilst pregnant and normalising breastfeeding a toddler.
7. Charlotte Dawson on breastfeeding a second time
Charlotte Dawson, TV personality and daughter of comedy legend Les Dawson, gave birth to her second son in July. Since then she has been regularly updating her fans on life as a family of four. She uploaded a beautiful photo of her breastfeeding her newborn as her toddler son looked on. In the caption she wrote: “I’m loving my journey this time round with Jude, even tho i forgot how bloody toe curling the first week is, but I’m keeping going I did 8 months with Noah.. but not putting pressure on myself.”
8. Ireland Baldwin never planned to breastfeed
Writer Ireland Baldwin, who is the daughter of Actors Alex Baldwin and Kim Basinger, gave birth to her little girl in April of this year. She chose World Breastfeedong Week to update her fans on her feeding journey with her little one. Interestingly Ireland said she never planned to breastfeed. She wrote: “I did not want to breast-feed. I had my own personal reasons for that choice. But it turned out that me and little Miss were kind of good at it!!!” We’re so pleased to hear breastfeeding is going well for Ireland.
9. Steph Miller breastfeeds live on TV!
Actor and Emmerdale star Danny Miller was a guest on the Loose Woman talk show with his wife Steph and their two children. As the couple were talking to the panel about life with two kids under two it soon became obvious little baby Edith wanted to feed. Steph quickly met the needs of her baby and breastfed her there and then – live on TV! You can read the full story here.
10. Bekah admits to not loving breastfeeding
The last person to make it onto our best celebrity breastfeeding moments of August 2023 is Bekah Martinez. The Bachelor alumni Bekah has two little girls and is currently pregnant with baby number three. As she awaits the arrival of her new baby she has been reflecting on breastfeeding. She’s the first to admit she doesn’t love breastfeeding saying, “I’m not exactly looking forward to the next two years of nursing again”. However, for her the benefits of breastfeeding (including the convenience!) make it all worth it.
