In this episode we talk about what to do when newborn babies lose too much weight. Our special guests are Aimee Cestrone, mama of three and founder of the award-winning breast pump brand Pippeta, and Maria Myres, the lactation consultant from Pippeta.
Together we talk about the important topic of newborn babies and weight loss. Aimee speaks with us from her perspective as a new mama as she recently gave birth to her third child, and Maria provides us with important information and advice related to proper breastfeeding support when infant weight loss may be an issue.
“I ended up having an emergency section, which resulted in antibiotics – which then delayed my milk coming in and Enya having a massive weight loss.” Aimee Cestrone

Maria explains the initial steps to take when faced with a breastfed baby who is losing too much weight. We also look at how mothers and their partners can properly advocate for good breastfeeding support when faced with early issues in their feeding journey.
“There are lots of things that we take into consideration when we assess a baby that’s having some weight struggles. There are lots and lots of things we can do including nipple shields, oral assessment, latching asssessment…and doing simple methods like breast compressions.” Maria Myres
